by Edgar Rice Burroughs
Kidnapped and marooned on a jungle island off the African coast, Tarzan assembles a band that consists of a leopard, a group of anthropoid apes, and a native warrior to help him search for his missing wife and son.
Tarzan’s interactions with Sheeta the leopard and Akut the ape are enjoyable nonsense, but I hope that Burroughs did not consider the warrior Mugambi to be one of Tarzan’s “beasts.”
Although she ultimately requires rescuing, Jane actually shows good agency and gets herself out of a few scrapes.
It should have ended a few chapters earlier but otherwise, it is prime Edgar Rice Burroughs jungle action, fast-moving and packed with thrills.
