 HALLOWEEN REVIEWS 2026

Director: Tod Williams

Writers: Michael R. Perry and Christopher Landon and Tom Pabst, story by Michael R. Perry

Stars: Sprague Greyden, Brian Boland, Molly Ephraim, Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat, Seth Ginsberg, Vivis Cortez, Jackson Xenia Prieto, William Juan Prieto

When their home is ransacked, the Rey family (Sprague Grayden, Brian Boland, and Molly Ephraim) installs a security system with video cameras in every part of the house just in time to capture the paranormal events centering on their young son, Hunter.

I love the shaky-cam, docudrama genre, and I enjoyed the first film, but this one fumbled the ball.

It's not a complete disaster; the way its story dovetails with the plot of the first is quite clever.

Unfortunately, this one is too much foreplay without enough payoff.

It also stretches credibility too much at times in order to put certain events on screen; I don't think a teenage girl would talk into a camera the way this one does, and most families would get a flashlight when the lights go out rather than rely on the light on their video equipment.

I also rolled my eyes at the stereotype of the Hispanic maid who just happens to be a fount of knowledge on demons and exorcism.

Spoiler alert!!! End of the film!!

HALLOWEEN REVIEWS 2026 Writer: Steve Gerber Artist: Craig Russell Inker: Jack Abel To get on board the starship that may be able to carry them back to Earth, Morbius and Lord I must get past the horde of barbarians to whom it is a holy site. Morbius attempts to take a hostage that he believes they will not want to endanger, but once again his irresistible thirst ruins his plans. They manage to get aboard and prepare for the long trip to Earth. Recap time! I’m pretty sure the Caretakers’ heavy involvement in the evolution of the human race must contradict some previously established elements of Marvel history, but it raises some inserting philosophical questions about the tension between well-intentioned paternalism and the importance of finding one's own way. After weeks of interstellar travel, their ship happens to come down in the vicinity of Blade, who is on patrol. Lord I has not survived the passage, and Blade is uniquely suited to identify the manner of his death. It’s prob...

HALLOWEEN REVIEWS 2026 Writer / Director: Jang Jae-hyun Stars: Choi Min-sik, Kim, Go-eun, Yoo Hai Jin, Lee Do-hyun, Kim Jae-cheol, Kim Sun-young, Kim Ji-an, Jung Sang-cheol, Jeon Jin-ki, Kim Min-joon Two young shamans (Kim Go-eun and Lee Do-hyun), a feng shui expert (Choi Min-sik), and an undertaker (Yoo Hae-jin) are hired to investigate a wealthy family’s supernatural affliction connected to an ancestral grave.  What begins as an exhumation ritual gradually turns into a confrontation with buried historical trauma and a much older evil beneath the soil.  This film has a distinctive identity, built from rituals, symbols, burial customs, shamanism, geomancy, family curses, and folklore that give the horror a texture rarely found in more generic supernatural films.  Its ritual sequences are especially memorable, staged with conviction that communicates the weight of belief even when the details are unfamiliar.  The performances help ground a story that could easi...

Director: Ang Lee Writers: James Schamus, Hui-Ling Wang, based on a story by Eileen Chang Stars: Tang Wei, Tony Leung, Joan Chen, Leehom Wang, Chung-Hua Tou, Zhi-Ying Zhu, Ying-Hsuan Kao, Lawrence Ko, Johnson Yuen, Lar Lok Chin A young woman living in China during the Japanese occupation (Tang Wei)  becomes entangled with a collaborator (Tony Leung), whom she has been assigned to seduce and set up for execution.  The assignment eventually becomes the context for her entire life, until her very sense of self is wrapped up in layers of deceit and betrayal.  Ang Lee's masterful film introduces us to our characters when they are young college students swept up in idealistic fervor and then rejoins them years later when they are older and wearier, fighting the same battle more out of necessity than idealism.   This is a long film because Lee takes his time fleshing out these characters, but it is time well spent.  I was thoroughly engrossed and shattered by the ...
