First, let’s get reintroduced to Michael Morbius and his terrible curse.



I like the idea that Morbius is capable of “softening” his attack so that it is not necessarily fatal, but that he must also get away quickly so his overwhelming hunger does not compel him to finish his victim off.



A couple of holy men, Reverend Daemond and Rabbi Krause, who is also a scientist, stumble upon Morbius as he rests, and his reaction to them is not typical for him.



They attempt to help him with discouraging results.



Calling on Satan appears to get results where science fails.



Now that Daemond has control of the Living Vampire, it appears that Rabbi Krause has no further use.



Reduced to a state of servitude, Morbius is sent to assassinate a rival.



A good fast-paced tale, a bit too padded with flashbacks despite its short length. Paul Gulacy really does an exceptional job of portraying Morbius's feral, desperate hunger.



Midnight in the Wax Museum!

A reporter agrees to prove his courage by spending the night in a wax museum where the police had chased a killer earlier. Turns out it was a bad idea.



However, these tales always need to end with a twist, even a bad one.

by Louie L'Amour Gaylord Riley has built a cattle ranch with money staked to him by his former outlaw gang, and when those men come back needing help, he has to decide whether he can honor an old debt without losing the life he worked to make.  At the same time, he is pressured by a rival rancher and a saloon keeper, both of whom threaten the fragile respectability he has built for himself.  Louis L’Amour keeps the plot moving, and he gives the American Southwest enough presence that the setting feels like more than just a backdrop.  Louis L'Amour Riley’s struggle to escape his past gives the story some real emotional weight, but the novel follows a very predictable template, and Riley himself never becomes very interesting.  L’Amour gives him a traumatic backstory, but not much psychological depth, and parts of his backstory do not fully hold together.  The supporting cast does not help much, since the villain and the love interest are both thinly drawn, and th...
