Spider-Man has been sealed into a rapidly filling sewer line by the Shocker.



The party is over and Peter must come up with a life to explain his disappearance.



A bit of foreshadowing for a future storyline with a sly clue to his identity.



Len Wein is doing a good job of rooting Peter’s adventuring in the kind of soap opera life drama that helped distinguish Spider-Man from other superheroes.



He also has a flair for the humor.



The reason behind the Shocker’s scheme is revealed.



The mayor of the unofficial capital city of the Marvel Universe should know better than to think the normal police force would be an adequate precaution against super villains.



They do, however, come in handy as distractions.



But that only lasts for so long.



Spider -Man triumphs again.



This issue stays within the series formula, which is part of the charm of Bronze Age Spider-Man, and Shocker fits that world perfectly: not a grandiose mastermind, just a working criminal with a gimmick that makes him a credible nuisance.

Lust, Caution (2007)

Director: Ang Lee Writers: James Schamus, Hui-Ling Wang, based on a story by Eileen Chang Stars: Tang Wei, Tony Leung, Joan Chen, Leehom Wang, Chung-Hua Tou, Zhi-Ying Zhu, Ying-Hsuan Kao, Lawrence Ko, Johnson Yuen, Lar Lok Chin A young woman living in China during the Japanese occupation (Tang Wei)  becomes entangled with a collaborator (Tony Leung), whom she has been assigned to seduce and set up for execution.  The assignment eventually becomes the context for her entire life, until her very sense of self is wrapped up in layers of deceit and betrayal.  Ang Lee's masterful film introduces us to our characters when they are young college students swept up in idealistic fervor and then rejoins them years later when they are older and wearier, fighting the same battle more out of necessity than idealism.   This is a long film because Lee takes his time fleshing out these characters, but it is time well spent.  I was thoroughly engrossed and shattered by the ...
