Tenebre (AKA Tenebrae) (1982)

 HALLOWEEN REVIEWS 2025

Writer/Director: Dario Argento

Stars: Anthony Franciosa, Christian Borromeo, Mirella D'Angelo, Veronica Lario, Ania Pieroni, Eva Robins, Carola Stagnaro, John Steiner, Laura Wendel

Peter Neal (Anthony Franciosa), an American novelist promoting his new book in Italy, becomes embroiled in a series of gruesome murders.

This is the best giallo I’ve seen so far.

The narrative is strong, and it presents a compelling mystery with some good twists and turns.

There are also some interesting ideas here; Neal receives the same criticism for being a misogynist that has been leveled at writer/director Dario Argento.

Instead of being defensive, Argento digs in and produces a layered work that should reward future rewatching.

  1. WOW, you found so much Tenebrae artwork! I'll share with my husband--Tenebrae is a giallo favorite of his, right after Deep Red and Suspiria. And that Goblin soundtrack!
