Scorpion...Where Is Thy Sting? (The Amazing Spider-Man #146) (1975)
Author: Gerry Conway
Artist: Ross Andru
Embellishers: J. Romita and the Gang
We open with a reminder of how much the Jackal hates Spider-Man and how long Conway has been writing the mag.
Both Peter and Gwen are trying to come to terms with the fact that she seems to be alive.
Elsewhere, the Scorpion makes his move.
On his way to kill Spider-Man again, he encounters the Jackal, whose superpowers seem to include being in a place he couldn’t possibly know to be.
Some detective work reveals Gargan’s current address.
Love the callout to Ed McBain’s 87th Precinct series.
The Scorpion has been tipped off to a connection between Aunt May and Spider-Man, but nobody has told Aunt May about it.
Spidey is pissed.
The Scorpion has made his escape for the moment, leaving Spidey with the time for some troubling thoughts.
But soon enough…
The aftermath of the battle is tepid, anticlimactic, and silly.
Both artwork and story are pretty uninspired in this one.
