The Ring Two (2005)
HALLOWEEN REVIEWS 2024
Director: Hideo Nakata
Writers: Ehren Kruger, based on the novel by Koji Suzuki and the 1998 film Ringu by Hiroshi Takahashi
Stars: Naomi Watts, Simon Baker, David Dorfman, Elizabeth Perkins, Gary Cole, Sissy Spacek, Ryan Merriman, Emily VanCamp, Kelly Overton
The first Ring film was okay, and this one is slightly less okay, but it still manages to entertain, even if it makes little sense.
Director Hideo Nakata, who made the far superior Japanese original, establishes a creepy atmosphere.
However, the logic of the first film has been discarded.
The evil Samara (Kelly Stables) no longer relies on the cursed videotape to summon her; she can appear on television screens at will and it's even possible for newspaper reporter Rachel (Naomi Watts) to jump through the screen herself, into Samara's world.
Samara also possesses the bodies of others, appears in mirrors, and causes an attack by rampaging stags.
If you find yourself watching, you may enjoy it if you require little in the way of narrative logic.
But there is no reason to seek it out.
