A social media influencer (Aisha Dee) reconnects with her childhood bestie (Hannah Barlow), who invites her to join a group of friends for a retreat to celebrate her upcoming wedding.
When it turns out that a childhood tormentor of hers (Emily De Margheriti) is also there, old wounds are reopened and the whole group is soon plunged into horror.
This film belongs to a subgenre of horror films like May and American Mary in which young women are warped by their traumatic pasts into monsters who do worse than what was done to them yet never lose our sympathy.
Sissy’s relentlessly optimistic positivity vlogging masks a desperation to manifest a peaceful grounded lifestyle, but her apparent serenity turns out to be a veneer that cannot withstand the triggers that come her way over the course of the weekend.
There is sly commentary here about the disparity between the fantasy lifestyles portrayed online and the reality behind the scenes.
Dee is hilarious, heartbreaking, and creepy, often all within the same scene.
