Lilith, Daughter of Dracula (Vampire Tales #6) (1974)

 HALLOWEEN REVIEWS 2024

Random Marvels Project

Dipping my net into the ocean of Marvel and seeing what comes up.

Plot: Marv Wolfman

Script: Steve Gerber

Art: Bob Brown & Tom Palmer

Lilith is excited to be in the Big Apple.

A footnote informs us that her origin story was told in Giant-Size Chillers #1, but it would have been nice to have a recap here.

As presented here, Lilith’s nature is a bit confusing: she transforms into a pregnant woman who goes by the name Angel O’Hara and doesn’t seem to know about Lilith.

She also seems compelled to support certain types of men and avenge abused women.

A fun read with lots of potential. I’ve never cared much for Bob Brown’s pencils, but the Tom Palmer influence seems to have made all the difference in the world because I love the artwork here.

Also included:

Angie’s Soul

Author: Chris Claremont

Artist: Balcells

A strong story with a genuinely surprising twist about how much people will accept when they become desperate for safety.

Blood Death

I couldn’t find a writer or artist credited for this uninspired story, but the fantastic artwork makes up for all shortcomings.

The Color of Crimson Blood

Script: Doug Moench

Art: Vicente Alcazar

Wouldn't the color of crimson blood be...uh, crimson?

Vampires just seem to bring out the worst in everyone. A veritable bacchanal of slaughter,  greed, prejudice, betrayal, and blood-drinking, with more great artwork.

Some forgettable text features fill out the page count, but what really impressed me was the consistently fine art in this magazine.
