Okja (2017)

Director: Bong Joon Ho

Writers: Bong Joon Ho and Jon Ronson

Stars: Ahn Seo Hyun, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Byun Heebong, Steven Yeun, Lily Collins, Yun Je Moon, Shirley Henderson

A young girl (Ahn Seo Hyun) lives an idyllic life in the mountains of South Korea with her super-pig, until the corporation responsible for engineering it comes for their property.

This excellent film manages to marry a pro-animal rights message with a spectacularly entertaining story.

The corporate villains are a little too melodramatic, with some egregious overacting from Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton, but otherwise, the narrative moves confidently among scenes of great humor, exciting action, and touching emotion, including some harrowing scenes of animal mistreatment that may make you feel guilty about eating meat.
