Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)

Directors/Writers: Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert

Stars: Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, James Hong, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Kwan, Jenny Slate, Tallie Medel, Harry Shum Jr., Biff Wiff

A woman struggling to balance her marriage, her business, and her family responsibilities (Michelle Yeoh) is recruited to prevent an alternate-universe version of her own daughter (Stephanie Hsu) from destroying the multiverse.

This goofy concept manages to be funny, exciting, and touching—often all at once.

A wonderful cast does great work.

Veterans Yeoh, James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis do some of the best work of their careers, Ke Huy Kwan makes a triumphant return to acting that is a feel-good story in itself, and relative newcomers like Hsu and Jenny Slate are impressive.

This whirlwind trip through multiple genres never loses its heart as it delivers the lesson that however chaotic the universe may seem, it is our relationships and attachments to each other that can ground us and bring us peace and love.
