An adventuresome truck driver (Kurt Russell) gets involved with a kidnapping in Chinatown and soon finds himself standing with a small group of friends against demons and sorcerers.
Someday I’m going to learn not to go back and revisit certain movies from the 80s.
For me, there is no decade that ages so badly, at least as far as special-effects-heavy films go.
Something about the combination of synthesizer-heavy soundtracks and special effects that are good enough to give filmmakers the confidence to reach for the stars but not quite good enough to get them there just doesn't stand the test of time for me.
It doesn’t help when the story is as repetitive and stage-bound as this one.
Russell still entertains, and there are some fun parts, such as the scene in which he and his friends take a drug that makes them feel “kind of invincible.”
