Spy (2015)
Writer/Director: Paul Feig
Stars: Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, Miranda Hart, Bobby Cannavale, Allison Janney, Jude Law, Nargis Fakhri
A deskbound CIA agent (Melissa McCarthy) is given her first real assignment when the identities of field agents are compromised.
I was a fan of McCarthy’s work back when she was on “Gilmore Girls,” but I hadn’t seen any of her film work since she became such an unlikely movie star.
This hilarious film was a good place to start.
Her comedic timing is impeccable as we follow her transformation from a mousy lovelorn single woman to a confident, foul-mouthed field agent.
The rest of the cast is very good as well, including Jason Statham as an overconfident dim bulb.
Writer/director Paul Feig does his part by turning in a terrific script.
