Horror Express (1972)

 HALLOWEEN REVIEWS 2023

Director: Eugenio Martin

Writers: Arnaud d'Usseau and Julian Halevy

Stars: Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Telly Savalas, Alberto de Mendoza, Silvia Tortosa, Julio Pena, George Rigaud, Angel del Pozo

A British anthropologist (Christopher Lee) attempts to transport a fossilized ape-man by train across Siberia, but when it revives, it has some ideas of its own.

Lee and his frequent costar Peter Cushing lend a little of the old Hammer Films magic to this British/Spanish co-production.

I love a good train film, and this story benefits greatly from the juxtaposition of claustrophobic sets and the train hurtling headlong into the night.

The film is best early on when the pall of mystery is thickest; once the creature’s nature has been deduced, the plot starts losing steam.

But, fortunately, that’s when Telly Savalas shows up for a fun extended cameo. This is a very enjoyable horror film.

Spoiler alert!!! End of the movie!!
