The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Director: Louis Leterrier
Writers: Zak Penn, from the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Stars: Edward Norton, William Hurt, Tim Roth, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, Ty Burrell, Christina Cabot
While Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) searches for an antidote for the gamma poisoning that causes him to Hulk out when overexcited, General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt) dusts off an old super-soldier serum, inadvertently leading to the creation of the Abomination (Tim Roth), a creature that may be even more dangerous than the Hulk himself.
Director Louis Leterrier's version is true to the spirit of the comics, delivering plenty of Hulk-induced carnage.
I've read that Marvel Studios insisted on deleting a lot of the more character driven moments to deliver a leaner film, and I recall some intriguing clips from the theatrical trailer that did not appear in the final version.
I think the film would have benefited from more of a human dimension.
Nevertheless, I was swept up in the story and had a great time.
