Murder Ballads, Part 4 of 4 (X-Force #109) (2000)

RANDOM MARVELS PROJECT

Dipping my net into the ocean of Marvel and seeing what comes up.

That’s it? The problem with this story is that the McGuffin is more interesting than any of the players competing for it, especially this Marcus Tsang that so much effort is spent to build up into a scary menace. The phrase “mutant gene for murder” is used numerous times, so apparently someone thought it sounded cool, but it is just as silly as the character’s look, with his bare feet and torso under a dark jacket.

A much more compelling story could have been built around the sentient piece of technology that had something to do with the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Apparently, the character of Peter Wisdom has been around for a while, since there are references to his time with the Excalibur team. He was new to me and more talked about than seen, so I wasn’t particularly moved by his fate.

And it doesn't help that some of this art looks like it came out of a high schooler's notebook.
