What a treat! 


A widow raises her two photosensitive children in a creepy haunted mansion, unaware of the true nature of the ghosts that inhabit it.
 

This is a quiet ghost story that takes its time to lay the foundation for the final, devastating revelation. 


It is so much better than those jack-in-the-box horror films in which something jumps out of hiding accompanied by a blaring soundtrack every twenty minutes or so.
 

Nicole Kidman heads a terrific cast.
