A Quiet Place (2018)

Director: John Krasinski

Writers: Brian Woods & Scott Beck and John Krasinski

Stars: John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cade Woodward, Leon Russom

A couple (John Krasinski and Emily Blunt) tries to protect their children (Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and Cade Woodward) in a post-apocalyptic world infested with carnivores that are drawn to the slightest sound.

Part of the pleasure of this film is the intelligent puzzle that the filmmakers set for themselves: how do you build a life of silence?

Much of the tension comes from the ever-present threat that the silence will be broken.

Director Krasinski’s camera is alert for the kinds of objects that one wouldn’t think twice about except for their potential to create noise.

The theme that resonated most strongly with me was parenthood.

Krasinski and Blunt must prepare their children to survive in a dangerous world, knowing that one day they will be on their own, fully prepared to make any sacrifice for them.

This is a very effective and innovative horror movie.

Spoiler alert! This is from the film's ending!
