Some soldiers take a break from Vietnam to provide security for some monster hunters as they try to survive on an island full of giant beasts, most notably the titular ape.

The Vietnam era milieu is an interesting idea, but the rote litany of standard visual tropes and soundtrack cues from dozens of better pictures about that war comes off as rather soulless.

The action on Skull Island is a lot more fun, even if it isn’t very logical.

Kong is great and I look forward to seeing him take on Godzilla in a future film.

I didn’t care at all for the design of the Skullcrawlers, but it’s fun to see Loki, Captain Marvel, and Nick Fury in a movie together.
