Dipping my net into the ocean of Marvel and seeing what comes up.

Inspired by Marv Wolfman
Woven & Told by Bill Mantlo

Janet Lyton and Grant Whittaker are trapped by a cave-in while excavating on the Isles of Wight…

…where they discover a mysterious figure in some form of suspended animation. Accidentally revived, the bewildered figure, who introduces himself as Modred, has a story to tell.

Learning that he would be destined to lose his beloved Janice, Mordred refuses to become the apprentice of Merlin.

Seeking the power of the Darkhold to bolster his position, Mordred unleashes forces he cannot control and must sacrifice himself to save Janice.

Neither quite alive or dead, Mordred is protected by a special crypt devised by his mentor.

Now he walks the earth again, infused with power from the Darkhold, knowing that the day will come when he must pay the price for that power.

A solid origin tale, though lacking in the horror elements one might expect in a magazine with ‘chillers’ in the title.
